Basic and Competitive Obedience

I do not start formal training in obedience until the dog is at least 6 months old. I will be happy to suggest things you can work on when they are younger, but do not expect too much of your dog. A dog's attention span is very short while they are young and they will only listen and do as you ask for 5-10 minutes. Here is a little tip to remember when you are working with your dog. Do not try to do any type of training if you are not in the best mood. A dogs lead is like an electrical line for receiving. Everything you feel will run down that lead straight to them. Even if not using a lead, just your touch will conduct your feelings to them.

I offer training in your home or mine.Training in your home will last 6-8 weeks depending on your dog. I will come once a week and work with your dog on my own. At the end of each session, I will give you a list of things to work during the week. Your dog will know more then what I am asking you to work on, but until it has it down good, it is best for only me to work on it.

Training in my home can be worked two ways. You can bring your dog to me once a week for 6-8 weeks and it will work the same as if I was coming to your home. You will drop them off for an hour and them pick them up. I will at that time give you the things to work on.

You can leave your dog in my home for the whole 6-8 weeks. I will work with daily on everything myself. When you come to pick up you will be instructed on commands and body language to use. In the case of them coming to my home, I will also train them hand or whistle commands, which ever you would prefer.

Conformation

Conformation training can be started when your puppy is 4 months old. There are things you can work on at home prior to that and I will be happy to give you suggestion. At this time I only do in my home conformation training. Iam however looking for a place to be able to offer classes. The training will last 3 weeks. I will work with your dog once to twice a day. Once your dog is trained, I will give you commands and body cues that it is trained to. Once trained anyone will be able to handle your dog in the ring just by using the cues.
I do offer handling at shows I will be attending. I either have to have the dog with me 3 days prior to the show or I can do ring side pickup.

Search & Rescue

SAR training can be started as play when your puppy is young. It does take a specific type of dog to be able to do this type of training and service. Unlike most things, a hyper dog with tons of drive are the best suited for this training and service. This training requires teams. You and your dog make up each team. A dog can be trained to work with any team member, but in training they must have just one trainer/team mate.

As puppies, play training is done to not only bond with them but to also see how much drive they have. A simple retrieving exercise/play will give you an idea of how determined your puppy is and how much drive they have.

As they get older, formal obedience, whistle command, hand signal and agility are all the training that they will go through.

This takes time and alot of effort, so if this something you would like to /learn teach, I would be happy to evaluate your dog/puppy and let you know if they have what it takes to be a SAR dog.
